901 GILMORE HISTORIC ADDITION

Working with historic houses offers unique challenges with each project. We always strive for historic design that respects the character while also providing the space necessary for today’s families. And regardless of how we get there, most clients are looking for a bigger kitchen, a better living room, and usually to create a master suite that was never a part of older houses. This was one of our earliest projects in the 12 South area and is still one of our favorites. Vaulting the kitchen and adding skylights makes for a very contemporary space and brings in some great natural light. The living room has some large windows all around it, as well as doors out to the screened porch that bring in more natural light. This is a great example of how you can use existing historic spaces and open them up to larger, more functional, new living spaces.
